Chrome users rejoice! Google is rolling out some new features to make your browsing experience safer and give you more control over your personal information. Here’s a quick look at what’s new!
First up, Chrome is getting an upgraded Safety Check feature. This handy tool will run automatically in the background, giving you a heads-up about things like revoking permissions for websites you no longer visit or flagging unwanted notifications. It’ll also let you know if there are any security issues that need fixing and will automatically block notifications from sites that Google Safe Browsing finds suspicious.
If you use Chrome on your desktop, Safety Check will alert you if any of your installed extensions might be a security risk and guide you to the extensions page to remove any troublesome ones. “As always, Safety Check will keep you updated with the latest security patches and help check your passwords for potential risks,” says Google. You can even choose the level of protection you want with Google Safe Browsing options.
For those on Pixel devices, Chrome is making it easier to stop annoying website notifications with a new ‘Unsubscribe’ button right in the notifications drawer. This feature is already live on Pixel devices and has reduced notification clutter by 35%! And don’t worry—it’s coming to more Android devices soon.
Another cool update coming to both Android and desktop versions of Chrome is the ability to control what data you share with websites. You can now choose to grant certain permissions to a website for just one visit. Once you leave that site, Chrome will automatically revoke those permissions, so you don’t have to worry about websites keeping access when you don’t want them to.
“With these new features, you can continue to rely on Chrome for a safer browsing experience that gives you even more control over how you explore the internet,” Google says.
These updates show that Google is focused on making your browsing experience both safer and more personalized. So, keep an eye out for these changes and enjoy a more secure and controlled way to surf the web!
